Archivist (Special Projects) - 2 Years Contract

Job Description

The successful candidate will join our Culture & Engagement department to develop and implement industry-aligned archival policies, manage and preserve SIA’s significant artefacts, lead corporate and community education initiatives, and craft research-driven narratives for impactful storytelling at the SIA Gallery.


Key Responsibilities


Develop and implement archival policies and procedures that are aligned with industry standards: 

  • Lead the development of archival policies and procedures, adapting and contextualising industry standards and best practices of archival science, to ensure long-term integrity and accessibility for the SIA archives.
  • Implement and enforce governance in the management and accountability of artefacts and records. 


Evaluate, organize, catalog, and manage preservation of artefacts of significance to SIA’s legacy and journey:

  • Oversee the systematic evaluation, organization, and cataloging of artefacts and records that embody SIA’s history and milestones. Apply preservation and/or conservation strategies that protect both physical and digital materials, ensuring their authenticity and accessibility for the future. 


Lead and oversee projects related to corporate and community awareness and education: 

  • Lead and oversee projects that extend the reach of the archives through awareness, educational programming and engagement initiatives. This includes proposing, curating, designing, organising, and executing activities and programmes that foster awareness, build partnerships, and/or encourage active participation in preserving collective memory.


Blend the development of elevated narratives and historical research to enable impactful storytelling for the SIA Gallery: 

  • Integrate rigorous historical research with the creation of elevated narratives that highlight SIA’s journey and achievements through compelling and impactful storytelling, and which resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Design meaningful stories that reinforce brand identity, develop audio-visual guides to deepen stakeholder engagement with varied audience personas (employees, customers, industry partners, community, and youth).  

 


Requirements

  • Possess a Degree (Bachelor's or Master’s) in Archival Science, History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Practices preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience in archival management, with a strong understanding of archival standards and practices.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to evaluate and prioritise archival materials based on institutional significance.
  • Experience with physical and digital preservation, and asset management systems.
  • Experience in project management, able to demonstrate capabilities/portfolio in recent curation and/or exhibition work.
  • Excellent business writing, analytical, and presentation skills to engage with stakeholders and diverse audiences.
  • Collaborates well in teams as coordination required with internal business units for curation.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of archival methods, theories, and standards.
