Trainee Flight Dispatcher

Job Description


The successful candidate will join the Flight Dispatch Department, under the Total Mission Management Division in SIA. The flight dispatch department is responsible for handling flight planning duties across the SIA network in a fast-paced 24/7 shift environment. The incumbent will be part of a fast-paced operations centre work environment which requires strong individual and team performance. Effective communication, managing time critical tasks, threat and error management are important for this role.
 


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the operational flight plans and briefing packages for SIA flights accurately in accordance with company policies, considering aircraft performance, Minimum Equipment List / Configuration Deviation List (MEL/CDL), weather, Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs), air traffic management measures and other operational requirements.
  • Ensuring the most suitable route is planned for each flight based on operational safety factors, including (but not limited to) avoidance of natural hazards such as tropical storms, volcanic activities; optimising payload, schedule compliance, efficiency, among others.
  • Filing and monitoring air traffic services flight plans and ensuring that any changes to the flight plans are updated in accordance with air traffic control (ATC) / air traffic flow management requirements. 
  • Monitoring operational systems and communications, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders regarding flight and fuel planning information, ensuring that all relevant coordination tasks are completed in a timely manner. 
  • Attending to queries and briefing pilots and other stakeholders on flight planning matters.
  • Be conversant with company fuel and operational policies, aircraft performance, aviation meteorology, route structure, flight planning requirements and apply such knowledge to achieve safe and optimal flight planning outcomes.
  • Contributing to effective team performance during both regular and irregular operations in a 24/7 shift environment.
  • Any other duties as assigned, including (but not limited to) tactical monitoring of flight planning variables, NOTAMs, flight planning system automation rules and related tasks.

 

 

Requirements

  • A Polytechnic Diploma / GCE ‘A’ Levels and above
  • An aviation or technical qualification or background would be advantageous
  • Relevant aviation experience will be advantageous, however candidates without relevant experience are welcome to apply
  • Analytical with good math and problem-solving skills
  • A good sense of direction and strong cognitive skills
  • Good situational awareness, ability to focus and prioritise time sensitive tasks
  • Meticulous and able to execute procedures accurately
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills who is able to work independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment
  • IT proficient, comfortable working with operational, technical documentation and procedures
  • Comfortable working with multiple applications and automation
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Comfortable working on a 24/7 rotating shift arrangement, including weekends and public holidays.

 

Successful candidates will join as Trainee Flight Dispatcher and undergo a comprehensive training program (the duration of training is dependent on the candidate's experience, lasting up to 12-15 months). To be appointed as a flight dispatcher, trainees must successfully complete the training program and competency assessments. Successful candidates will be required to sign a bond for the duration of training and two years thereafter.
